Hello.

The reason I have started this thread is to know more about foreign cuisine.
The question I am especially curious about is how many eggs does an average Englishman eat?
It seems that they have them at least for everyday's breakfast :)
By the way, doctors recommend eating less than 3 eggs per week because of a lot of cholesterol they contain.
Fish and chips seems also very popular among British people. I tried it in South Africa and that was very tasty. But fried potatoes is not a health food.

What about you American and Australian guys ;-) ?
I heard of Americans eating a lot of fast food, however I realize there are people who don't like and even war against it.
In Australia I heard they hunt kangaroos and eat them :)
It must have been a joke :).

For today's breakfast I had a do-it-yourself salad made from raw carrot, beet, apple and grapefruit with smetana, curd with smetana and a cup of green tea. It is not typical breakfast for this country, though.

Regards, Alex.

Couldn't you get salmonella or something from raw parrot?

I had a bowl of cereal for breakfast today. I don't usually take the time to cook eggs or anything during the week.

This morning I had two crumpets, one spread with houmous and the other with delicious mushroom paté.

I normally have two slices of seeded bread with houmous and mushroom paté, or with two hard-boiled eggs sliced on top.

I very occasionally have cereal - usually a muesli or granola type with dried fruit, nuts and seeds for extra Omega oils, with soya milk.

I tried houmous but that isn't my sort of thing. Is seeded bread a bread with seeds removed?

When I lived permanently in England, I had just a bowl of home-mixed muesli, as did my offspring. My wife usually had the same, with sometimes a slice of toast and marmalade as well.

Once or twice a month, on a Sunday, we'd have a couple of rashers and a couple of fried eggs each, sometimes followed by toast and marmalade.

Nowadays, my breakfast is usually just coffee and nicotine, though in winter I sometimes have a bowl of porridge.

You forgot the sausage in the meat items.

Non-egg items include pancakes, waffles, and French toast. We had French toast yesterday.

The traditional English breakfast is not something most people have every day. I eat it about three times a year.

I had coffee, mangosteen and some toasted rye and oat bread.

My brother introduced me to crumpet with houmous when I was last in the UK- a good combination.

Wow, I have never expected to see what I see, I mean your replies.
How often do you drink coke? I used to drink it much while being in South Africa.
Toast and French toast refers to the same thing, is that it?

Houmous is one of the foods I could never live without. I love it.

Seeded bread is bread with whole seeds and/or nuts added so that it has a good crunchy and/or nutty texture. There are lots of different seeds and nuts that can be added - sunflower seeds, linseed, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, chopped mixed nuts. I like "ordinary" bread quite a lot, but I prefer my bread to have some interest!

I love crumpets. Admittedly, my favourite way to eat them is just toasted and dripping in butter, but I'm trying to eat a bit more healthily at the moment so I've ditched the butter in favour of other toppings.

Since the beginning of 2012, I've had the following on crumpets or toast for breakfast:

Marmite
Houmous
Mushroom paté
Hard-boiled eggs
Scrambled eggs
Fried eggs
Vegetarian sausage
Vegetarian bacon-style rashers
Cashew butter
Almond butter
Chilli jam
Strawberry jam
Blackcurrant 100% fruit spread
Halloumi
Cheddar

Looks like you are keeping track of what goes with the crumpets you eat ;-)
I love pancakes but here in Belarus we make it large and thin. My grandmother used to make something like a crumpet but I am not sure about whether it was like that.
I, myself, really love rye bread.
Do you eat crumpets warm or cool?

Two or three times a year my then wife used to serve real kippers at the weekend (we had a good fishmonger in the town we lived in). One of the main reasons I go to stay with her and her present husband when I am in England is that she usually serves them for breakfast when I am there. Scrumptious.

I have the same thing every day, wholemeal toast with organic peanut butter (no sugar or salt added).

Do 'wholemeal' and 'seeded' denote the same thing with regard to bread?

No. Wholemeal bread is just brown bread made with the whole of the grain (the wheatbran and the wheatgerm) but the grain is milled until it's just flour.

Seeded bread has extras added to the flour, as I said in my last post - actual pieces of seed or nuts.

Wholemeal bread
White bread
Multigrain seeded bread
