If I were writing a recipe for Americans, how could I change 400 ml of water to cups? Since an American cup is 236,8 ml, how many cups are there in 400 ml? Am I supposed to change it to the nearest ml?

Since 400/236.8 = 1.69, that's closer to 1 2/3 cups.

Is this really an English question? I can confirm as someone who likes to cook a lot that I'd have no idea what 400 ml looked like, but my measuring cups all have ML on one side and cups on the other, if that helps.
