    I wish I went on a trip this weekend

    Is this sentence acceptable?or should we say "I wish I could go on a trip this weekend"?

    You could also, with a different meaning, say 'I wish I was going on a trip this weekend' (where it means something like 'I wish I had a weekend trip planned[, as you/they do/she does]').
