    The plural of an abbreviation

I was just wondering on how to pluralize the abbreviation for kilometres (= km).

In the legends of road maps, etc., you would see "20 km". But how would you write this colloquially?

Eg. "I canít be bothered reading e-mails that I have to scroll down through 10 km/kms of headers to get to the body of!"

By the way, does anyone have any preferences re. where to place the preposition "of"?

"I canít be bothered reading e-mails that I have to scroll down through 10 km of headers to get to the body of!"

"I canít be bothered reading e-mails that I have to scroll down through 10 km of headers of to get to the body!"

    Thanks,
    Bill

Re: The plural of an abbreviation

I'd use kms. Colloquially, I'd put 'of' at the end. I don't like the second email sentence.

Re: The plural of an abbreviation

    Thank you, tdol.

Regarding those two sentences, I seem to recall grammarians frowning on ending a sentence in a preposition, so I was a little sceptical. Glad to have a second opinion!

    Take care,
    Bill
