help vs help out

Does "help out" differ from "help"? "help out"'s "out" seems to mean "till the end or completely", so when you help out someone, you help him till the problem is resolved. If there's no difference between the two, let me know.

ex)He's always willing to help(help out) others in need.

ex)He's always willing to help(help out) others in need.

"Help out" is perhaps a more casual version of "help". If I rescue someone with a broken leg from a snowy mountainside then I helped them. If I simply carried a heavy bag up a few steps for an old lady, then I helped her out.

Compare these two adverts for volunteers:

Doctors with Médecin sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) help people all over the world, every day, in very difficult conditions. Can you help?

Your local charity clothing shop is looking for volunteers. Can you help out for a couple of hours each week?
