    broken popes ?

    "Water rushed into the streets from broken popes and mixed with gas from broken gas lines, causing more explosions."
    "Popes" has to be an error/typo, but I can't figure out what the correct word is.

    It's most likely pipes, especially because "i" and "o" are adjacent on keyboard.
