    He left when I was little

    When you say "someone left", does it mean "he died" or "he abandoned his family or spouse"?

    MEL - Um,my mother hated it. I don't know how my father felt.
    DELIA - Oh,why not?
    MEL- He left when I was little.
    DEL- - I'm so sorry.
    MEL- No,it's ok.
