    drew blood

What do you mean by "draw blood"? Did his father get upset or hit him for the mistake?

    Mel- You can do this.
Brandon- Last time I missed a note, my dad almost drew blood.
Now that he's a ghost, who knows what he'll do?

To "draw blood" means to cause blood to flow, even if only to a small degree.
"When you bang your knee on a chair it will usually hurt, but it doesn't often draw blood".
In your example, I assume that it's an exaggeration and he's just saying that his father got very angry. However, if dad is inclined to whack his son across the knuckles with a ruler whenever he misses a note then maybe it should be taken literally.

    Re: drew blood

It's worth noting that "drawing blood" doesn't have to relate to causing blood to flow only as a result of violence. It's perfectly possible for a nurse to draw blood in order to run some tests on it, for example. However in the context provided, violence is the implication.
