    [WISHES] Past

I need some help. I've started to learn English wishes and I almost learned them, but I can't understand past wishes. For instance: My buddy was in a party last night.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------

I wish that I had been there.
I wish that I could have been there.

Which one I could use in this situation?

At that, please explain me what's the difference between "wishes" (could have) and (had). Thanks in advance

"I wish that I had been there." = "I could have been there, I wasn't and I wish I had."
"I wish that I could have been there." = "I wasn't able to be there and I wish I had been able."
