    You got brass ones

The wife got fortune after her husband got brain dead, and she treated Mel so harshly last time, and now she says "brass ones" which is translated as "having experienced such a humilating thing, you come here".
What does "brass ones" means? Is is a metaphor for your nerve after a humiliating thing?

wife- You got brass ones, I'll give you that to come here after last time. Just what is it you want?
mel- I came here because I need you to trust me.
    wife- Why?
mel- Because I'm going to ask you to do something that isn't so easy.
wife- Why do you care about any of this?
mel- I'm just trying to help.
