    Grammar of this sentence

Hello, I just read a sentence in an article: "This is a very serious accusation, which as it is not based on any concrete evidence may be regarded as an attempt to smear our reputation"

What is the usage of "which as" in this sentence?

    Thanks

There should be commas after "which" and "evidence".

    Re: Grammar of this sentence

    ***** NOT A TEACHER *****

May I add my two cents' worth?

Maybe the as- clause would be more clearly understood by you if it had been at the end:

This is a very serious accusation, which may be regarded as an attempt the smear our reputation, as it is not based on any concrete evidence.

The writer could also have used parentheses or dashes to make the as-clause stand out more clearly for you:

This is a very serious accusation, which (as it is not based on any concrete evidence) may be regarded ....

This is a very serious accusation, which -- as it is not based on any concrete evidence -- may be regarded ....

    HAVE A NICE DAY!
