    Meaning of the sentence

    Hi, What is the meaning of "sustain" in this sentence:

    "But even the government says that unlimited liability poses such a threat only if injury claims can be sustained against the industry"

    Thanks~ but I'm still not sure about this. Does "sustained" mean that "something is confirmed and accepted" in this sentence?
