    From....to..

I am confusing about the meaning of the following sentence:

....from 2004-05 to 2010-11, 81 American pedestrians wearing headphone died in accidents.....

My question is that the 81 died during the 6, 7 years or during 2010-2011, or the increasing of the death was 81?

Thank you very much for your time and help.

It would be more helpful if you provided us wider context. But I guess 2004-05 means May 2004, and 2010-11 means November 2010.

    Hi
I think from 2004/2005 to 2010 2011....Spongie can be right as well. Anyway it refers to those periods of years.

    Re: From....to..

This is not normal for people to refer to year like this. Unless they are talking about a hockey or basketball season that began in 2010 and ended in 2011. Or a school year.

Some groups use a "year" that does not coincide with the calendar year. This is usually a "fiscal year in companies that do their annual reporting on the company's finances in June or some other month. The US Federal gov't runs its year from October through September.

Regardless, the company would call it "fiscal 2010" not "2010-11"

The meaning is from the "year" beginning in 2004 and ending in 2005 to the year beginning in 2010 and ending in 2011, 81 people died.
