"over" has the meaning of "direction change", and without it, is it less emphatic for direction change?
What do you think is the difference between "to play" and "over to play"?

What does friendship mean? It means helping your friend every day. And inviting him or her over to play.

You're inviting someone over to your place. The word over is constantly used with the word invite by native speakers. I'm currently teaching English using the Speak English Like An American book by Amy Gillett. They use that collocation a lot.

What about this? Doesn't it mean "change of direction or place"?
