    to see nanobots gotten big

He looked around at the island, as though expecting to see nanobots gotten big.

Have I understood it correctly that it means he didn't expect to see nanobots get big out of their own volition, as it were, but rather that something else would get them big?

    Thanks.

Re: to see nanobots gotten big

In my opinion, the nanobots got big on their own (by themselves).

    - Which nanobots?
    - The ones gotten big.

    Although it can be both.

I, too, think it is of their own volition. If I made something "get big," i would likely say that I made them big, not that they had gotten big.
