    past or past perfect ?

    Hello Teacher, which sentence is correct?




    1) At last we see the sun. It had been raining almost every day last week.

    or

    2) At last we see the sun. It rained almost every day last week.

    You could use either. I would use the past simple, out of pure native instinct.

    Neiher sounds particularly natural to me; 'At last we can see the sun' is more natural.

    There is no reason at all to use the past perfect in the second sentence. Use either 'It rained' or 'It was raining'.
