I don't understand this expression: "I can liaise nearer the time".

Can you help me please?

"Liaise" as a verb is the height of jargon, in my opinion.

And nearer the time to what?

I'm not surprised you couldn't understand it.

I can meet with you at a time closer to [whatever is happening].

It could mean to act as a liaison with some un-named 3rd party.
