Hi,

1 )Edward worked hard so (that) he could succeed.

2) Edward worked hard in order (that) he could succeed.

3) He is such an idiot (that) nobody would hire him.

4) He spoke so quicky (that) I couldn't understand her.

That is, "that" can be removed in some forms, and be implicit when using 'so that'. Can we apply that style to 'in order that', such....that, so....that also?

Thanks...

You can omit 'that' in 1, 3, 4. You can't in 2.

"In order" is usually followed by "to" so #2 would become "Edward worked hard in order to succeed" or "Edward worked hard in order to be successful".

So many thanks to both of you...Can I ask one more question? Can we add 'that' if we use 'so' in this way?

.She studies hard, so she passed the exam. (THAT'S OK)

She studies hard, so that she passed the exam.

No, that doesn't work.
