How do you use the most/ most?

1.How do you use the most?

    2.How do you use most?

My grammar book says only 2 is grammatical and I wonder why. I think most is more grammatical since use is a verb.

    Also,

    3. I like it the best.

    4. I like it best.

Are the both 3 and 4 grammatical?

    Thank you.

We use 'the' with adjectives qualifying nouns: This is the most interesting book I have ever read

We don't use 'the' when were are comparingthings at different times, or places; This book is most interesting in the last chapter.

You will also hear "This book is most interesting", meaning "very interesting".

Sorry I put the wrong sentence. Actually my grammar book says only 1 sentence is correct. Why is that?

Which one does it claim is incorrect? Does it give any further context?
