    No, you can't use 'what'.

He thinks about what he can do for his students.
What he does for his students is impressive.
He always thinks that he can do more ...

    I will notice it,thanks!

But the answer given is only "how".And I also think "that" is right after reading your reply.
Do I have to think of grammar of connective when I answer this one?

    ***** NOT A TEACHER *****

    (1) If your teacher said that only "how" was the correct answer, then I think that your sentence should have included a very

    important word:

As a teacher, he always thinks about how he can do more to help his students.

That is, he often thinks to himself: How can I do more to help my students?

    *****

As a teacher, he always thinks that he can do more to help his students.

That is, he always believes that there are more ways in which he can help his students.
