    What is that/it?

Kid: I want to ask you a question.

Are the following responses both correct?

    Father: What is it?
    Father: What is that?

'What is that?' doesn't sound natural.

    Thanks a lot, Rover_KE.

If a kid says,"I want to ask you a question", how should we say naturally?

    Thanks bhaisahab,

When the kid says,"I want to ask you a question", usually he'll ask us to buy some snack.
