    Listening

To all my teachers & senior members

How can I improve my listening of English? I can't pick & understand what is spoken in the movies and news, I am watching Hollywood's movies and listening BBC regularly as well but in vain yet. On the other side it is easy for me to understand what I read i.e. newspapers, books etc. Please give me yours precious tips.

    Re: Listening

    Hi Addul,

I'm an English learner like you, so I think I'm in a position to give you some advice. English in movies and news is too fast for most English learners IMO. It'd be better if you started with things like VOA Special English and some documentary films, and keep listening to them for a while until you're sure you can understand everything in them. Dictation will help, too. Write down anything you hear in a program or documentary and compare it with its corresponding transcript or captions. Find any word or phrase you have trouble with, and repeat them over and over again until you feel confident with them. Keep doing these for a while and then move onto a higher level. And always remember, practice makes perfect.

    Keep up the good work!
