    drop, locking

Please help me understand the following two words in red.

The music industry concurred with the proposal to drop copy protection, but some record executives said it was their idea, not Steve's, and the reasoning was that Apple was locking customers into iTunes and iPods; They say Steve repurposed the mission to make himself look like the savior.

    Thank you.

    Re: drop, locking

to drop copy protection = to abandon or discontinue (a course of action or study). Examples: The charges against him were dropped last year. Drop everything and get over here!
The proposal to abandon attempts to protect copying of music was dropped.

Apple was locking customers into iTunes and iPods... = ( lock someone/something into) To cause to become caught or involved in. Example: They were now locked into the system.
Apple successfully got customers to buy their product(s).
