    Correction

    Is it correct to say:
    I didn't mean to hurt you but it was a slip of tongue.


    The article"A" before slip has confused me.

    It's not very natural with 'but'. I'd write, 'I didn't mean to hurt you; it was a slip of the tongue'. The article is fine - 'slip' is countable.
