Do I need 'when' in this sentence?

"My experience also includes a year when I took part in tutoring children between the ages of 6 and 10 who were attending LIA Primary School in Piliscsaba."

I can't decide whether 'when' is necessary in the sentence above or I can leave it out. If neither way is correct, how to say it correctly?
