    suggest

    In my student's invitation letter, she wrote the following sentence:
    I suggest the time for dinner would be best at 7:00 p.m.
    I don't think it is appropriate. Could you give me more advice? Thank you!

    It's a bit wordy.

    I'd write 'Please come for dinner at 7pm'.

    I'm not sure what you mean by "appropriate". I really don't see anything wrong with the sentence, particularly because the invitation is in the form of a letter. If it were a formal invitation, it might be worded differently. If you do decide to advise the student to change the sentence, please explain to him/her your reasons for the change.
