what is the proper respond to this quetion

Originally from this thread but I was told to go make another thread so:

A Have a seat and I'll be with you in an hour
B OK, just let me check the diary

B is the correct answer but wouldn't A do the trick as well? Why can't I use it?

Re: what is the proper respond to this quetion

Because it would be very unhelpful indeed. No receptionist who wished to keep their job would tell a patient to wait for an hour merely to make an appointment.
