while/when + ING

Hi there,

Consider these sentences:

1 - I sprained my ankle when (or while) I was jogging.
2 - I sprained my ankle when (or while) jogging.

I believe the two ways are possible, but it lacks me the grammar explanation. Could you help me with that?

'When' doesn't sound right in the second sentence, but I couldn't tell you why exactly. It feels too specific for the use of 'when'. If it were a general statement, it would sound all right:

"People who sprain their ankle when jogging should avoid putting weight on it until it's been iced and bandaged."
