    to make young

I wonder if the following definition is correct. It's from a workbook, but it sounds weird. "Young" is children of animals, and if human beings are treated as animals, it makes sense, but anyway it sounds weird. Rather, the next definition from a dictionary sounds more reasonable. What do you think of the first definition?

    Re: to make young

    What word are you defining?

"To make young" is potentially ambiguous. Is this perhaps a definition intended for children or other beginning learners?

    Re: to make young

This question from a workbook for highschoolers, so maybe it can be for beginning learners. That is probably why they made a simple definition.

    Re: to make young

Young children soon learn that animals have babies.

One day they will see them mating.

Well before puberty – or high school – they will know the meaning of reproduction.

Those are the terms I would use.

But that's the whole point. I don't see the problem
