Each artist painted a different section / different sections of this wall mural

Different artists painted different sections of this wall mural.

The answer provided in transforming the above sentence is as follows:

Each artist painted a different section of this wall mural.

I wonder whether the following is an alternative answer.

Each artist painted different sections of this wall mural.

I think the answer provided assumes that each artist painted a section on the wall mural. However, my contention is that there might have been three artists doing the painting and each artist painted two or even three sections of the wall mural.

Am I correct in my reasoning and hence the alternative answer?

    Thanks.

I think not. Unless I had some other outside information that the mural was divided into sections based on some other criteria, I would assume naturally that what divides one "section" from another is who painted it.

Bob painted one section, Jim another, and Sue a third. Each painted a different section.
