    time

Does the second one with the past tense 'I met her' sound fine?

That was the first time I had met her, but she talked to me very frankly.

'Does it sound fine?' Yes, it does.

'Is it grammatically impeccable?' I neither know nor care.

Good. Then what about these with the present tense? Does the second one sound OK?

This is the first time I have met her.

    Re: time

No. Only the first is possible.

You could also say 'I am meeting her for the first time'.

    Re: time

I know I'm meeting her for the first time, or We are meeting for the first time, but what's wrong with This is the first I meet her, or This is the first time we meet?

    Thanks

That's just not an appropriate situation for the present simple.
