"While Johnny put on more wood to build up the flames, the younger boy went to the tent to gather rags and a wax candle. "

"In the kitchen, she put on water for tea."

What is "put on"? Is "put on" in "put on water" and "put on wood" different?

    Re: Put On

The wood was put on the fire, adding more wood to an already existing fire.

The water (in a kettle or pot) was put on the stove or some other source of heat to allow it to boil.
