    LDCE has this:
'BrE a special school in Britain in the past,
where children who had done something illegal
were sent if they were under 18'
    1. What is the present system and school name?
    2. What is the American equivalent?
    Thank you.

The AmE equivalent would be a reform school, I think.
Nowadays, young offenders are doing time in Juvenile detention centers ( or juvis for short) and those places provide education for them. I am not quite certain if there is anything else beyond that.
