If all economists were laid end to end, they would not reach a conclusion.

Does this quip mean that most economists think completely differently?

Thanks

Yes- if you made a line consisting of every economist, you would not reach (or come close to) a conclusion.

PS The sentence is negative about economists and not praising them.

It's not uncommon to say something like "If all the iPads that have been made were laid end-to-end, they would reach the moon." You do this to emphasize the great number of something. It's a play on the word "reach" -- reaching a destination, or a conclusion.
