    Further north/ further south

In this question "which of these US cities is the furthest north?", does it mean which cities are far from north? In that case can we just replace the underlined part with "the furthest from north"? Or does it mean it's situated toward north?

    Thanks a lot.

    Re: Further north/ further south

It means the most northerly, or the nearest to the North Pole.
