What is the difference between mean and means?

I managed to explain a friend who asked me what is the difference between want and wants. But failed to explain the difference between mean and means.

    Could anyone please enlighten me?

    Thank you.

Re: What is the difference between mean and means?

Do you understand how to change a verb for person and number?
    I run
    You run
He runs -- This one, third person singular, takes an S.
    We run
    You all run
    They run

It's the same with "want, which you said you explained. It's the same with "mean."
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
