    prepositions-where-what-how

    Hello,

-She didn't care what her father thought.
-I don't care about what people think of me.
-You may take several months to reach your target weight - it depends how much you want to lose.
-Choosing the right bike depends on what you want to use it for.

I can't understand why we may not use the prepositions such as ''on, about, of,..etc'' before ''what, where, how,...etc'', but we can't construct the sentences as as the following. Can we omit always the prepositions before 'what, where, how,...etc?''

    -I don't care you. (WRONG)
-'How long are you staying?' 'I don't know; it depends the whether. (WRONG)

    Thanks.

    Re: prepositions-where-what-how

Sorry, it should have been ''weather''... I constructed those 2 sentences to show that they are wrong... I want to ask that can we omit the prepositions such as ''on, about, of,..etc'' before ''what, where, how,...etc'', if we put after them 'when-how-where-what,..etc?

-She didn't care (about)what her father thought.
-I don't care (about) what people think of me.
-You may take several months to reach your target weight - it depends (on) how much you want to lose.
-Choosing the right bike depends (on) what you want to use it for.

I really want to know whether the prepositions are necessary or not before the 'what-where-how,...etc''?

    Re: prepositions-where-what-how

I would not omit the "on" in either of those sentences.

I would omit "on" in both when speaking/writing informally, but probably not formally.

What colour sofa shall we get? It depends what colour the room is.
Which sofa shall we buy? It depends how much they cost.

    Re: prepositions-where-what-how

So many thanks. But I have one more question. Can we omit all the prepositions used some verbs Or can we omit only the preposition ''on'' before ''what-where-how,...etc?

    Thanks.
