    Tag question

I know the question may be silly, but help me with this one.
Since the subject in the sentence below is 'not everybody', how is the tag questions supposed to be?

    - Not everybody agrees that this is the best deal, does it? (I have a hint this is not right)

    Thanks.

I know, I know, it's not grammatically correct, but that's what we say.

    Re: Tag question

Thank you! So does it is incorrect or is it somehow grammatically right?

    Re: Tag question

"It" defiintely does NOT correspond to "Not everyone," so no, it's not right.

    Everyone agrees, don't they?

I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    'Does it' is completely wrong.

    Re: Tag question

Ok, I see. So the explanation for that, in case I'm enquired about it (and I'll be), is because though the word everybody is conjugated as 3rd person singular, it represents a group of people (they). Right?

Yes, that is correct. The tag in a question never appears with anything other than a pronoun.

PS: in situations like the above, i.e. (and I will be), the verb is used as a reference back to another verb (in this case "enquire") and the auxiliary verb used does not contract.
