what does it refer to? ( it's a basic pronoun question)

"It is a testament to how far we've come in building a strong and resilient relationship and being able to have very candid open discussions about issues where there is disagreement without it endangering the entire range of significant matter that we are woking on together," Clinton told reporters.

what does it refer to? I think it is disagreement.. Am I right?

    Hello, yes2424.
    Welcome to UsingEnglish.com.
What a long sentence it is!
The key is to find a singular noun prior to "it'.
I agree with you. I think "it" in your sentence refers to "disagreement".

    Yes
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Thanks everybody! Somebody kept saying 'it' refers to testament, and I thought he's wrong. That's why I posted it!
Thanks for your answer. I won a bet. :)

tes2424's right, and so is tsujimino about it being a long sentence! It used to be regarded as 'advisable' or even 'correct' to write this sort of 'it' as "it's", but today the possessive is decried as excessively formal.
