Hi,

I´m currently doinga diplom a course through INTESOL and am working on the phonology and phonetic unit. NOT my favourite, let me tell you!

Anyhow, I´m totally confused regarding CODA.

'squealed' - pre-final and a final coda
'scratched' -final and post final coda
(why not pre-final and final?)

'waxed' - final, post final 1 and post final 2 coda
'ninths' - pre-final, final and post final coda
(why not final, post-final 1 and post-final 2?)

How do you KNOW whether it´s pre-final or final?

Totally at a loss here and I can´t find any information - so I´m hoping someone out there can help.
Thanks, Leigh

I have solved the mystery thanks to 'English Phonetics and Phonology' (Peter Roach) pg 73. There is a set of rules regarding consonants - it all makes sense now.
