Is "Genesis 1:1 " read as "Genesis one one"?

and "Genesis 2:7" "Genesis two seven"?

    Context:

If you have not recently read this Biblical account, find a Bible
right now and read Genesis 1:1 through Genesis 2:7. There is no
substitute for looking at the actual text if one is trying to under-
stand its meaning. And if you are concerned that the words in
this text have been seriously compromised by centuries of
copying and recopying, do not worry very much about this—the
evidence in favor of the authenticity of the Hebrew is in fact
    quite strong.

Yes, or "Genesis Chapter 1 Verse 1" if you are speaking to an audience unfamiliar with the Bible (as you seem to be doing). After one or two mentions in full, you should be able to say "Genesis five thirteen" etc. and be understood.

This explains the collocation 'chapter and verse', which now means documentary textual reference of any kind (not just biblical).
