    Law-abiding citizen

    Hello.

The OALD says that abiding is an adjective meaning lasting for a long time and not changing.
I am just wondering how could it happen that combining the law noun and the abiding adjective into the adjective
law-abiding we get the meaning of obeying and respecting the law (according to the OALD).

    Thanks, Alex.
