Did the doctor pass by? Why do you know it?

    Hi teachers,
It is a doctor who speaks. This is the text.
'I read the writing under the picture. It said:
'Come in and see the Elephant Man'.
I opened the door and went in.

Based on the blue sentence, is the question a challenging one? Could it be better?
Did the doctor pass by? Why do you know it?
No, he didn't. Because he opened the door and went in.
Aside: Is it correct to use 'why' there? 'How' would show more suprise, wouldn't it? Am I right?

    Thanks in advance.

Change 'Why do you know it?' to 'How do you know?'

    Hi Rover,
How come I shouldn't use 'it' at the end of the question?

Re: Did the doctor pass by? Why do you know it?

    It's redundant and unnatural.
