Thumbs up Emma By Jane Austen - Another Question From Chapter One_Part 3

    Hi Again,

This is another part of the novel:

"Emma knows I never flatter her," said Mr. Knightley, "but I meant no reflection on any body. Miss Taylor has been used to have two persons to please; she will now have but one. The chances are that she must be a gainer."

[Some lines deleted. I have explained why in the next post - 5jj].

    Thanks again my friends!

    Enough!

I have told you, Oliver, that you need to post one question at a time. If you post so many questions in one thread, and different people respond to different questions at different times, the thread will become horribly confused. I have deleted some of your questions. You are welcome to resubmit them in separate threads, but please give us one thing to think about at a time.

    Sorry 5jj.
I supposed that if I write them firsl it will be something different. It won't happen again.
Any body has something to say about to help me to interpret the lines?

Let me right some of my ideas about this lines:

    1. but I meant no reflection on any body : I didn't mean no body.

    2. The chances are that she must be a gainer : it has some profits for her.

    3. Emma knows I never flatter her : She know that I never praise her to gain something.

Are these interpretations correct or not?

    Please help me!
