    work out exact locations

    "Work out" here is translated as "calculate", but all I can find in a dictionary is a similar meaning of "to bring about by work, effort, or action." Is it "bring about" or "calculate"?

    ex)...Famous American statesman and scientist, Benjamin Franklin, also used messages in bottles. His purpose was to draw a map of the ocean currents. He did this by dropping bottles with messages into the Gulf Stream. When people found and returned them, he was able to work out exact locations for his map...
