    Pause button or pause buttons

    Hello,

In the saying "Life has no pause button(s)", should "button" be in the singular or plural form? I have seen both. Is the singular form the more logical choice, considering any player has only one Pause button, one Stop button and one Play button? I'd just like to know if it is a fixed expression and logic plays no part in it.

    Thank you.

    Nawee

Re: Pause button or pause buttons

It's not a fixed expression or a standard idiom. The singular makes more sense to me.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Re: Pause button or pause buttons

I agree- I see no need for life to have more than one pause button.

Though one would be nice, wouldn't it?
