taken or sent / (being) needed

Defence personnel had to use airbags to raise the tyre of the bus to pull the victim out.
He was conscious when (being) sent to NUH.

    1. Would it be better to use 'taken'?
    2. Is 'being' needed?
    3. Is the second sentence awkward?

    Thanks.

"He was conscious when sent..." is fine. It would be OK with "taken" as well. I wouldn't use "being".

Re: taken or sent / (being) needed

If you wanted to put something before sent then it would simply be "he was".
I would prefer "taken". "Sent" makes it sound as if he was advised to go to hospital, potentially under his own steam. Given that he had just been pulled from the wreckage of a bus, I'm fairly sure he was put in an ambulance and driven directly to hospital. Therefore, he was "taken" to hospital.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
