    Before or after

We were traveling down to Mexico for Thanksgiving week with our family. _____ we were sitting in the very first two seats in the first row of first class waiting for the plane to take off, I accidentally heard one of the flight attendants telling others that there was a couple sitting in the back of the plane who had just been married the previous day and were heading off on their honeymoon. Owing to schedule changes, they had not been able to get seats together. ...
    A. After B. Before

The answer given is B. Is it because "we were sitting" instead of "we sat"?

Normally, after we sat in the seats, we heard something...

What does a native teacher think of that? Should I choose answer A?

    Re: Before or after

Neither is very natural. More natural would be, "After we had sat (down) in the the first two seats " or "After taking our seats in the first row ...".

    Re: Before or after

    Or "while we were sitting..."
