    the gettysburg address

    We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting-place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live.
    i dont quite understand the sentence
    1. why is it "that field", which sounds odd to me. (there is "that nation" inside too.
    2. is "that that nation might live" a relative clause? if so what does the that refer to? field or their lives? and what does it mean?
