    Can the word "research" be used this way?

    A lot of clinical research had demonstrated the effectiveness of the drug.

    What is your problem with the use of "research"? I agree with you that "studies" is perfectly acceptable, as would "trials" be.
    Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Well, if the usage "a lot of clinical research" was okay, can "a lot of phase II and phase III clinical research" work?
